Spy shots and video of the 2022 Genesis G70.
As evidenced by the recent sighting of a prototype testing at the Nürburgring, the Genesis G70 is set to undergo a major makeover.
Although the G70 will only be available in 2019, Genesis hopes to update its styling to match the new G80 and GV80, the other cars in the automaker's lineup.
Key to the changes will be the adoption of Genesis' Quad Element Lighting theme, which will be a new look for the new G80 and GV80.
Another distinctive element of Genesis' latest styling theme is the large mesh grille in the shape of a crest. The prototype also showed a new design of side vents located behind the front wheels.
Similarly, the interior should be updated to match the latest Genesis model. The dashboard will be more cluttered and will likely feature a digital instrument cluster and a larger infotainment screen. The digital instrument cluster might feature Continental's new 3D graphics.
It is not clear what mechanical modifications are planned. It is possible that the current 252 hp 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder may get a horsepower boost. The current 365 hp 3.3-liter V-6 twin-turbo will likely take over so that the G70's V-6 can match the 375 hp of the G80's newly developed 3.5-liter V-6 twin-turbo.
It is also not clear if pricing will be raised; the G70 currently starts at about $36,000.
Expect to see an updated G70 in 2021 for the 2022 model year. Genesis is known to be working on a compact crossover SUV and is also believed to be preparing a mid-size coupe and compact hatchback.
