Genesis unveils first photos of its GV80 mid-size SUV.
With the New Year upon us, Genesis is about to show us one of its upcoming announcements for the next 12 months. Genesis premiered photos of the GV80, a mid-size luxury SUV that will go on sale in Korea in January and in the U.S. in late 2020.
Genesis plans to release more information in the coming weeks, but we do know that the GV80 will be based on a rear-wheel-drive platform exclusive to the Genesis brand; prototypes of the SUV have been spotted for over a year, and rear-wheel drive will be standard with all-wheel drive also available. At least one of the powertrains will be V-type. At least one of the powertrains will be a V-6, and a plug-in hybrid could eventually make an appearance.
Genesis said the GV80 will further define the brand's design with unique features such as dual-element headlights and a crest-shaped grille. Photos of the interior were also revealed, revealing a minimalist theme that incorporates a digital meter cluster, a wide infotainment screen, and a rotating electronic gear selector.
The GV80, the first of three SUVs to be launched by Hyundai's luxury brand in the coming years, is targeted at vehicles like the Acura MDX and BMW X5 and, judging by the teaser photos, is very much like the bold GV80 concept car unveiled in 2017 boasts a design very close to that of the GV80.
Beyond the GV80 are the smaller GV70 and GV60 models that will join Genesis' high-riding lineup in the coming years. Prototypes of the latter have already been spotted.
