FCA hints at all-digital dash with Airflow Vision concept
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has a busy schedule planned for the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The company will unveil plug-in hybrid versions of the Jeep Wrangler, Compass, and Renegade, as well as concepts that hint at future cabin technology in vehicles from various brands.
Called Airflow Vision, the concept features a spacious four-passenger cabin. The real highlight is the dashboard with multiple digital screens, including an instrument cluster, infotainment hub, and climate control settings. Yes, FCA may replace physical buttons and knobs with a touchscreen interface in the future. This is a trend that other automakers, including Jaguar Land Rover and Audi, are also investigating.
The Airflow Vision will also add a screen in the rear compartment. The concept is designed to easily share information with all passengers by swiping, for example, restaurant suggestions or drop-off locations.
Interestingly, FCA said in Thursday's announcement that the exterior hints at future designs; FCA also said that the design of the concept's wheels was inspired by the internal structure of an electric motor, suggesting that the concept may feature a battery-electric powertrain He stated that this suggests that the concept may be equipped with a battery-electric powertrain.
