2020 Audi A5 Technology and looks are refined to rival the A4
The 2020 Audi A5 family will receive a new touchscreen, faster throughput, and a sportier look to align with its A4/S4 siblings.
On Wednesday, the German luxury automaker released information about its refreshed 2020 A5/S5 coupe, hatchback, and convertible lineup.
The updated A5 lineup will feature a flatter and wider grille that looks more angular. The front bumper edges are sharper with upright blades leading to functional air inlets. According to Audi, the rear now has trapezoidal exhaust outlets, but no photos of the rear end were released.
On the interior, the A5 features Audi's latest MMI infotainment system called MIB 3 with a 10.1-inch touchscreen that controls a new interface up to 10 times faster than the previous system, according to Audi.
The A5 model is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo four with 248 hp and 273 hp of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and through Audi's quattro four-wheel drive system. According to Audi, the turbo four enables the A5 coupe to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds (5.7 seconds for the Sportback and 6.0 seconds for the Cabriolet).
To go even faster, the S5 model is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 with 349 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, which is transmitted to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. This turbo six allows the S5 to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds in the coupe, 4.5 seconds in the Sportback, and 4.8 seconds in the Cabriolet.
All A5/S5s are equipped with Audi's Drive Select feature with four driving modes: comfort, auto, dynamic, and independent. Each mode changes the transmission shift points, suspension stiffness, stability control, and adaptive cruise control system.
LED headlights and taillights are standard, with upgraded LED matrix headlights available on higher trims. Performance options range from a sport suspension on coupe and sportback models to adaptive suspension and variable steering ratios.
The Black Optics package includes blacked out exterior trim and 19-inch five-spoke aluminum wheels wrapped with summer tires. Audi's latest 12.3-inch digital meter cluster is available, as is 4G LTE connectivity with WiFi hotspot, as is a Bang & Olufsen sound system with 16 channels, 19 speakers (20 speakers on the Cabriolet), and 705 watts of output, a box that might be worth checking.
The base A5 is priced at $43,895 for the coupe or sportback and $50,895 for the cabriolet; the S5 is $52,895 for the coupe and sportback and $61,195 for the cabriolet.
