For sale Buick GNX 202 miles for sale on Bring a Trailer.
This 202-mile Buick GNX odyssey continues in a very public way. Never sold, it appeared in Jay Leno's garage in November, and now, thanks to a listing on Bring a Trailer, it may find a forever (or at least temporary) home.
The car had a sticker price of $29,389 back in 1987; 308 of the 547 GNXs were built and stored at Boulevard Buick in Signal Hill, CA for over 30 years.
At the time of its appearance in Jay Leno's garage, the car had 184 miles on it. Today, it has 202 miles, thanks to Jay's traditionally on-road driving in the car he featured on the show.
GNX, short for Grand National Experimental, was the last bastion of the Buick Regal Grand National. Like the Grand National, it was powered by a turbocharged 3.8-liter V-6, but it got hairier with the addition of a Garrett T3 turbocharger, larger intercooler, and high-flow exhaust by McLaren Performance Technologies/ASC The GNX's maximum output is said to be 276 hp and maximum torque 360 hp, but with a 0-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds and a quarter mile time of 12.7 seconds, it was likely more powerful.
The changes were not the only ones. All GNXs also featured black paint, basket-weave 16-inch black wheels with polished aluminum lips, wheel flares, a three-piece rear spoiler, and front fender vents to vent hot air from the overtuned engine.
Boulevard Buick initially tried to sell the car, but no one was able to bite on the significant price increase that dealers had to take in bringing the car to market. Rather than take the sticker price, the dealers silently watched the car appreciate.
It seems to have worked. The car currently has a bid of $150,000 and the auction will end on Monday; the bidding could go higher, as an 8-mile GNX sold for $200,000 at BaT last year.
