Spy shots and video of the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE63 Coupe.
Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled the redesigned GLE63 for 2021, and the high-performance crossover SUV will spawn another racy GLE63 Coupe model.
The latest spy shots show a prototype of the new GLE63 coupe, and judging by the lack of camouflage, it will be revealed soon. the Geneva International Motor Show in early March is the most likely time. it will hit dealers by late summer as a 2021 model. It will be on dealer shelves by the end of summer as a 2021 model.
The GLE63 coupe's powertrain is AMG's familiar 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and a rear-biased all-wheel drive system. This time, however, the car will also feature a mild hybrid system. Essentially, it is an enhanced starter motor that assists the engine off the line and recovers energy during braking.
The GLE63 S coupe will have a maximum output of 603 hp and 627 hp of torque, and will use the same mechanical setup as the GLE63 S. AMG has not yet revealed the output of the regular GLE63 grade, but that will come when the GLE63 coupe is revealed.
Other performance upgrades include a powerful brake package and a circuit-tuned air suspension. The latter will allow for millisecond-by-millisecond control of the dampers and roll stabilizer to adapt to road conditions.
AMG also offers a modest GLE53 coupe. This model is equipped with a mild hybrid system built around Mercedes' new inline 6-cylinder engine. This system, which also features an electric compressor, produces 429 hp, similar to a V-8, but with 20% more efficiency than a V-8.
Production of the entire GLE series will take place at the Mercedes plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
There will be plenty of competition when the GLE63 coupe arrives. Audi and BMW have just unveiled their new RS Q8 and X6 M models, and Porsche has jumped on the coupe-like SUV bandwagon with the Cayenne Coupe.
