The Range Rover coupe is not dead, Niels van Rooy Design picks up where Land Rover left off.
Last year, due to cost-cutting, the Land Rover Range Rover SV Coupe disappeared before it could be seen. But wealthy buyers need not shed tears, as Dutch design firm Niels van Roij Design picked up the pieces Land Rover left behind and began production of a sleek two-door SUV called the Adventum Coupe.
It's not an exact replica of the SUV planned by Land Rover and its Special Vehicles Operations division, but judging by photos released Thursday, the Adventum Coupe looks very attractive.
The goal was to pay homage to the original 1970s two-door Range Rover, and given Niels van Rooy Design's previous projects, the look of the finished product is not surprising. This is the same company that unveiled the stunning 2019 Tesla Model S shooting brake and a modern version of the 550 Ferrari Breadvan from Maranello.
"The original first generation of this British icon was released in 1970 and is a model of automotive design," says Niels van Rooy, CEO and founder of Niels van Rooy Design. It was only available in a two-door body until 1981, when this SUV was introduced in a four-door version. This flagship four-door model is now in its fourth generation, and in this generation it was never produced in a two-door version."
Prices for the Adventum Coupe start at 270,000 euros ($301,525), with Niels van Looij Design offering only 100 examples and production being handled by Dutch coachbuilder Bas van Lumen.
There is a lot of work to be done, including removing two doors from the donor Range Rover and cutting up the bodywork to replace them with new aluminum panels. Assembly of the Adventum Coupe will take six months and will only begin once the customer has paid a €50,000 deposit.
Niels van Rooy Design offers an extensive list of options, including various interior trim materials. These include polished wood, colored leather with specific embroidery and patterns, tweed, and more exotic materials. What is the main theme of the car? Anything is possible.
The Adventum Coupe comes standard with a 525-horsepower version of Jaguar Land Rover's 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine. Of course, buyers can also choose other powertrains from the Range Rover lineup.
