Apple CarPlay dashboard supports third-party maps in iOS 13.4.
Apple's CarPlay smartphone integration system has a useful Dashboard feature that allows multiple apps to be displayed simultaneously in split-screen mode. This is especially useful when the phone's navigation system is running simultaneously with the media player.
The downside of Dashboard is that it only works with Apple's own apps, so even in third-party apps like Google Maps, the map takes up the entire screen.
This all changed with the release of version 13.4 of the iOS operating system for the iPhone.
As The Verge first noticed on Thursday, Dashboard has been updated to support third-party apps. However, developers of those third-party apps have yet to add support for Dashboard, and currently popular mapping apps like Google Maps and Waze have yet to receive it.
Version 13.4 of iOS also added call information from third-party apps to Dashboard.
Additional features for CarPlay are rumored to be coming in iOS version 14.0. Rumors point to additional company information displayed in Apple Maps and the ability to add custom wallpapers.
