Milspec is expanding from Hummer to Ford F-150.
Milspec Automotive has become famous for its Hummer redesigns, but now the Michigan-based company is about to tackle other types of vehicles. On Monday, the company announced that it will transform a Ford F-150 pickup truck into a "super truck built for conquest."
The Mil-spec specification only applies to the current F-150, powered by a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8. Power is increased from the usual 395 hp to 500 hp. This was achieved without the use of forced induction, but the modified engine requires 91 octane fuel (according to Ford, the stock version can run on regular unleaded fuel).
According to Milspec, the modification increases the wheel travel to 11 inches and the track width to 13.5 inches. The appearance of the Milspec F-150 is equally as much about driving performance. According to Milspec, the suspension tweaks made the F-150 7.0 inches wider than the Raptor and the same height as the F-250.
The vehicle is also offered with the Baja Suspension Package (a $6,000 option). This adjustable coilover and shock kit includes 3.0-inch diameter Fox bypass shocks, a remote reservoir, 10AN hoses, and Eibach springs. All elements of the kit are powdercoated black with anodized aluminum accents to match the exterior of the car.
When it comes to exterior changes, the Mil Spec F-150 gets new fenders, side steps, black powder-coated front and rear bumpers, LED headlights and black dual exhaust tips. The car is fitted with 20-inch wheels shod in 37-inch Nitto Ridge Grappler tires. The Baja Exterior Appearance Package adds a roof rack, spare tire carrier, and 39-inch LED lighting system for an additional $8,600.
Buyers can choose from four colors: agate black, magnetic gray, lead gray, and white oxford.
The interior includes a steering wheel with magnesium paddles, aluminum control knobs, and leather seats. In addition, an alloy license plate is mounted on the center console of each car.
The F-150 has a short bed, a 5.0-liter V8 and comes with the 302A Luxury Package, XLT Appearance Package, FX4 Off-Road Package, Trailer Towing Package, Navigation, Rear Cross Traffic Alert with. The base XLT SuperCrew with a suite of options including Blind Spot Warning, Rear Park Assist and more starts at $85,000 including the donor vehicle. The base price of the pickup is $53,520, so Milspec adds about $31,500 to the price with its modifications.
The idea is to offer a more affordable product than MilSpec's previous Hummer.
MilSpec says two trucks will be ready by mid-May, and once the coronavirus pandemic is over, customers could receive them about a month after ordering. Conventional cab versions may be available in the future.
