Spy shots and video of the 2021 Audi A3
A prototype of Audi's updated A3 model has been spotted. The prototype is styled after the popular compact sedan and will appear in dealerships in late 2020 as a 2021 model.
In other markets, Audi will offer a five-door hatchback called the Sportback. This hatchback made its debut in early March.
The new A3, now in its fourth generation, is based on an updated version of Volkswagen's MQB modular platform. The updated platform debuted in the redesigned Volkswagen Golf last October and introduces new systems for the A3's all-wheel drive, suspension damping and speed-sensitive steering.
In terms of design, the new A3 follows the current model. The grille is slightly larger and the headlights have more pronounced drop-shaped elements. The body shape also seems more pronounced.
The interior features a digital instrument cluster, a large touchscreen infotainment system that recognizes handwritten text and responds to commands in natural spoken language, and a color head-up display.
Powertrain options for the new A3 in the U.S. have not yet been announced. In the rest of the world, it will be offered with a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline four with a gasoline engine or a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four with a diesel engine. Transmissions will include a six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Dynamics enthusiasts can expect the S3 and RS 3 models, with the S3 getting a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine and the RS 3 getting a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline five-cylinder engine. Power output of the latter is expected to exceed 400 hp.
More information will be revealed as development progresses.
