Hennessey boosts the Audi R8 to 912 horsepower.
Hennessey Performance Engineering is known as the maker of American muscle cars, but the Texas-based tuner also offers refinements for European exotics. These include the Ferrari 458 Italia and the McLaren 600LT.
Now Hennessey has announced an upgrade to the Audi R8. It consists of installing a twin-turbocharger on the R8's 5.2-liter V10 engine, which will increase power to 912 hp. This is significantly more than the regular R8, which has 562 hp in the R8 V10 and 602 hp in the R8 V10 Performance.
To achieve the more than 50 percent increase in power, Hennessey installed a Precision turbocharger, high-performance intake and exhaust systems, an intercooler, a special oil system, and all the necessary piping to make it work.
As part of the upgrade, Hennessey is also calibrating the engine management system and testing it both on the dyno and on the track. What results can car owners expect to see on the track? Hennessey said the 0-60 mph acceleration time is 2.6 seconds and the quarter-mile time is 9.8 seconds at 145 mph.
The price of the upgrade is $79,500, and since the R8 is a twin to the Lamborghini Huracan, Hennessey claims that the same upgrade can be fitted to the Italian supercar.
