Volkswagen's R division is preparing a new lineup based on the small Tiguan SUV.
A prototype of the Tiguan R has been spotted, virtually undisguised, suggesting that VW's fastback division will soon release another SUV. Last year, the division released the T-Roc R in the compact segment.
This prototype may look like a regular Tiguan equipped with the R-Line sport package available for the SUV. However, a closer look reveals that it features four exhaust tips of the same design as the T-Roc R and Golf R's tailpipes.
The engine produces 296 hp and 295 hp of torque and is normally mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and an all-wheel drive system. A similar system is expected to be fitted to the Tiguan R.
The Tiguan R is expected to debut later this year as a 2021 model. Before we get excited, it should be noted that this prototype is based on the short-wheelbase Tiguan sold overseas. The regular T-Roc is also not sold here, so it is not possible to see the T-Roc R.
After the Tiguan R is launched, a facelifted Tiguan should also go on sale. In the prototypes, you will be able to notice a modified grille and new inner headlights on both sides. These and other changes should appear across the entire Tiguan lineup in 2021.
