Hurricane crate engines on the market starting at $7,995.

Mopar, the aftermarket division of Sterantis, has expanded its crate engine lineup with the new Hurricane inline 6-cylinder engine.

The Hurricane is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine that is gradually being installed in Sterantis vehicles as a replacement for Sterantis' V-8 engine.

In crate form, the Hurricane is called the HurriCrate and is currently available in two options: the Cat 1, rated at 420 hp, and the Cat 3, rated at 550 hp. Pricing for the long-block version is $7,995 for the Cat 1 and $11,715 for the Cat 3. The short-block version is priced at $10,495 for Cat 1 and $13,745 for Cat 3. The long-block version has a longer parts list, hence the name, and includes items such as cylinder heads, camshafts, and valve train components.

Given that real-life hurricanes are up to Category 5, at least two versions of the HurriCrates with even more power may be on the horizon; when the HurriCrate was first previewed at the 2022 SEMA Show, Mopar announced a 1,000 stated that it was developing a version with a target output in the mid-1,000 horsepower range. This version is for competition use and will feature a custom-designed block and head and turbo system, Mopar said at the time.

The HurriCrate engine will be sold through Direct Connection, Mopar's performance parts brand, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. As part of the celebration, an incentive program is being offered that offers discounts of up to $300 on select crate engines.

Mopar is also offering half-scale versions of Dodge NHRA Funny Car bodies as part of Direct Connection's 50th anniversary celebration. Known as the Dodge Charger Junior Roadster, the body weighs less than 30 pounds and is designed to fit an 85.5-inch wheelbase. According to Mopar, it is intended for children ages 5 to 17 who want to learn the ropes of drag racing through events such as the NHRA Summit Racing Jr. Drag Racing League. Prices start at $3,765.
