Audi A6 E-Tron to debut this summer

Audi announced last week during last quarter's earnings release that the highly anticipated A6 E-Tron will be available this summer.

The A6 E-Tron is Audi's second model to ride on the Volkswagen Group's Premium Platform Electric (PPE), a dedicated EV platform that debuted earlier this year with the Audi Q6 E-Tron and its Porsche Macan EV sibling.

The A6 E-Tron was teased in 2021 with a concept of the same name, and spy shots of the prototype suggest the production version will closely resemble the impressive show car. A wagon body style, or avant as Audi calls it, is also planned, but it is not clear if this too will debut in the summer.

Audi has yet to announce U.S. sales of the A6 E-Tron, but the electric mid-size sedan will likely arrive in the U.S. early next year as a 2025 model.

The A6 E-Tron is similar in size to the Tesla Model S and should offer performance comparable to American EVs. Single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive are planned; in the A6 E-Tron concept, Audi is said to have a 100 kwh battery with a range of over 300 miles and 800-volt technology that allows for a 5-80% charge within 25 minutes.

The related Q6 E-Tron will feature 422 hp and a boost mode that temporarily boosts output to 456 hp; the SQ6 E-Tron will feature 483 hp and 510 hp. Similar figures should be available for the A6 E-Tron and its S6 E-Tron grade. It is also believed that a high-performance RS 6 E-Tron grade will also be available.

The A6 E-Tron would replace Audi's gasoline-powered A6. Audi will not launch its last gas-powered car until 2026 at the earliest.

Audi will also unveil a revised E-Tron GT this year, as well as revised versions of the A5 and Q5. The new A5 and Q5 will be built on a new platform called PPC (Premium Platform Combustion); for the A5, the current coupe and convertible body styles will be phased out and only a sportback hatch and new avant-wagon may be offered are likely to be offered.
