2024 Ford Shelby Super Snake, hitting over 830 hp.

Shelby American participated in Ford's 60th anniversary celebration of the Mustang this week, unveiling the latest generation Super Snake Mustang.

The car is Shelby's first challenge to the redesigned seventh-generation Ford Mustang and is powered by an available supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 that delivers more than 830 hp in its final version, Shelby said. This surpasses the previous Super Snake, which had a maximum output of 825 hp.

The new car, which was unveiled Thursday on the first day of the Barrett-Jackson auction in Palm Beach, Florida, will go into production this summer and will be limited to just 250 units for 2024. Pricing has not been announced.

Buyers will have a choice of coupe or convertible body styles and either a naturally aspirated V-8 or supercharged version. The engine is the 5.0-liter V-8 found in the Mustang GT, which produces 480 hp without a blower. The supercharged version, with a 3.0-liter whipple supercharger and a host of other modifications, delivers more than 830 hp. Both powertrains are available with a choice of a 6-speed manual transmission or a 10-speed automatic transmission. Drive is rear-wheel only. [According to Shelby CEO Joe Conway, the car was developed in collaboration with Ford and Whipple and features upgrades that focus primarily on features. Highlights include a lightweight aluminum hood with carbon fiber vents and push-button hood pins, a wider front end with carbon fiber fenders, and new aerodynamic elements aimed at improving downforce, including a front splitter, side skirts, and rear diffuser. New aerodynamic elements include. The coupe version will also get a custom rear wing.

The chassis now features Shelby's proprietary suspension for sharper turn-in. In addition, 20-inch forged magnesium wheels are installed, and a set of Shelby's own brakes are housed within the wheels.

Each vehicle is registered with the official Shelby registry and comes with a three-year, 36,000-mile warranty. The original Ford warranty on the powertrain also remains intact. The vehicles are built exclusively for the U.S. market, but Shelby says that additional vehicles may be built by affiliated performance stores in other regions.

Shelby American's original Super Snake Mustang was built in 1967 as a high-speed demonstrator for tire testing. Powered by a lightweight 427 cubic-inch race engine transplanted from the Le Mans-winning Ford GT40, only one was built. A small production run was planned, but the project was eventually cancelled due to cost issues. Shelby, however, began production of the 1967 model in a limited run of 10,

using the original Mustang chassis.
