2025 Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid, maximum output of 604 hp revealed.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which was launched last year, will soon get its first AMG-developed tuning model. [2025 AMG's first foray into the latest E-Class, unveiled Monday as the Mercedes-Benz AMG E 53 Hybrid, is a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 with an electric motor integrated with a transmission that delivers V-8-like performance. The first challenge was to develop a plug-in hybrid that would be equipped with a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder turbocharger and an electric motor integrated with a transmission that delivers V8-like performance.

Total output is normally 577 hp, but is temporarily boosted to 604 hp when launch control is activated, matching the output of AMG's previous E 63 with a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8.

Performance estimates call for a 0-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds with launch control (normally 3.9 seconds) and a governed top speed of 174 mph; AMG says the electric motor can deliver up to 161 hp on its own, allowing the E 53 Hybrid to reach 87 mph. acceleration to 87 mph.

The E 53 Hybrid's powertrain is a new development by AMG. This powertrain will also be used in the GLE 53 Hybrid next year, but with a slightly more modest output of 536 hp.

The GLE 53 Hybrid, however, will have a larger battery: 31.2 kwh, while the E 53 Hybrid will have a slightly smaller 28.6 kwh battery. The battery will provide 21.2 kwh for daily driving to reduce fuel consumption. The remaining capacity is reserved for electrical boost during high-performance driving and is recharged through braking energy regeneration. Estimates of range based solely on electric power have not been provided.

Besides the powertrain, the E 53 Hybrid is stiffer than the standard E-Class, with a wider track, high-performance brakes, and a sport-tuned suspension with steel springs and adaptive dampers. All-wheel drive and rear-wheel steering are also standard.

Many of these features, along with powertrain characteristics, can be adjusted via the E 53 Hybrid's drive mode selector. Individual modes can also store driver preferences.

To enhance performance, AMG offers the Dynamic Plus package, which adds larger brakes up front and paints the calipers red. An electronically controlled locking rear differential is also tweaked for better traction in the corners, and dynamic engine mounts are part of the package.

The E 53 Hybrid is expected to hit showrooms later this year. In other markets, the E 53 Hybrid Wagon will also be offered. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
