2025 Polestar 3, coming this summer, priced at $74,800

The delayed Polestar 3 midsize SUV will finally begin deliveries in the United States this summer, the Swedish performance EV brand announced Wednesday.

The 3 will be available as a 2025 model, with prices starting at $74,800, including a $1,400 destination charge. It was previously a 2024 model, starting at $85,300.

Software-related issues delayed the launch of the 3, as did the launch of the Volvo EX90, but the delay allowed Polestar to offer additional options and lower the entry price.

The Polestar 3 comes standard with a 111kwh long-range battery capable of up to 250kw DC fast charging, a dual-motor all-wheel drive system, a 14.5-inch touchscreen display (portrait), and an Android-based infotainment system.

The 3 has a standard performance of 489 hp and a range of 315 miles. Also standard is the Pilot Pack, which includes a variety of electronic driver assistance features and a heads-up display.

The Plus Pack, available for an additional $5,500, adds a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, heated rear seats, and 21-inch wheels.

Buyers seeking higher performance can opt for the $6,000 Performance Pack. This adds a chassis tune-up, 22-inch wheels, and an increase in power to 517 hp. It also adds gold-colored seatbelts. With the Performance Pack, the 0-60 mph time is reduced from the standard 4.9 seconds to 4.6 seconds. However, the range also drops to 279 miles.

Polestar said at the 3 launch in late 2022 that a lidar sensor will be available, but the timing and price of this option has not been announced.

Production of the 3 is already underway at a factory in Chengdu, China. Production at the Charleston, South Carolina plant is expected to begin around the same time as the cars are delivered in the United States.

The Volvo EX90 is currently expected to begin production in the first half of 2024 and will initially be listed as a 2025 model. Like the Polestar 3, the EX90 will be produced at both the Chengdu and Charleston plants. Volvo has set a starting price of $77,990 for the EX90.
