BMW Vision Neue Klasse X electric SUV to debut March 21.

BMW plans to launch several electric vehicles in the next few years based on a next-generation platform that promises more power and efficiency than current technology. The new models will be known as the Neueclasse family, and the first to appear will be a sedan and an SUV in the same segment as the 3 Series and X3.

BMW has already teased the sedan with the Vision Neue Klasse concept, which was unveiled at the 2023 Munich Motor Show; on March 21, the Vision Neue Klasse X concept will be unveiled to preview the SUV. The unveiling will coincide with BMW's annual general meeting at its Munich headquarters.

Teaser photos posted on social media on Monday give a glimpse of the concept's silhouette. The window frames, especially the A-pillar design, appear to have the same rigid form as the previous Vision Neue Klasse concept. The lights, grille, and other small details should also be similar to the sedan concept.

A prototype of the production model has already been spotted. In terms of size, it will be similar to the X3, which is due for a makeover; expect it to be called the iX3, the name of BMW's current X3 electric car sold overseas. Similarly, the sedan will likely be called the i3, a name already used for the electric version of the current 3 Series sedan sold only in China.

Four more Neuklasse EVs will follow in sequence, but these will likely be different versions of the first sedan and crossover, including a wagon and a coupe-like crossover.

The first Neue Classe EV (possibly an SUV) will be built at a plant under construction in Debrecen, Hungary, starting in 2025. Its timing indicates that it will arrive in the US as a 2026 model.

The Neue Classe EV will also be produced at existing BMW plants in Germany and China starting in 2026 and in San Luis Potosi, Mexico starting in 2027.
