Acura is about to launch a new entry-level crossover

Acura will launch a crossover smaller than the RDX later this year, the company announced Thursday along with several other announcements.

No further details were given, except that it will be the entry-level model for the Acura brand alongside the Integra compact hatchback.

Acura sold a subcompact crossover called the CDX in China from 2016 to 2022. It was considered for introduction in the U.S., but was ultimately passed over.

The CDX is a cousin of its predecessor, the Honda HR-V. Similarly, Acura's new crossover is likely related to the redesigned HR-V, which was announced in the U.S. for the 2023 model year

The latest HR-V is 179.8 inches long, 7.6 inches shorter than the RDX. The engine is a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder with 158 horsepower. This engine is paired with a CVT, which turns the front wheels as standard and all four wheels in the available all-wheel drive system.

Acura also announced Thursday that updates to both the RDX and MDX are in preparation. For the MDX, a midsize SUV, the updates include styling tweaks, a Bang & Olufsen audio system, and more advanced electronic driver assistance features. The user interface will also get a touchscreen display in place of the current touchpad, and a built-in Google. Acura is vague about the RDX, saying that it will "receive upgrades to enhance its appeal and functionality," with no timeline given.

Acura also said that orders for the 2024 ZDX electric midsize SUV will begin in February; the start of ZDX sales marks the beginning of Acura's plan to offer EVs only through its online sales channel.
