'School of Rock' 1987 Dodge Ram B250 van up for auction
A 1987 Dodge Ram B250 van used in the filming of the 2003 movie "School of Rock" is up for auction at Bring a Trailer.
In the film, Jack Black plays a guitarist in a struggling rock band and works as a music teacher at a prep school. Few movie vehicles match the characters as well as this van. It is a stereotypical bandwagon, with a mural of the Grim Reaper over the poorly maintained brown paint, with both real and pseudo corrosion.
The interior has red upholstered front captain's chairs, tan shag carpeting, wood paneling, and plumbing for a smoke machine. The van comes with three guitars, a drum case, and movie memorabilia.
Power is from a 3.7-liter inline six-cylinder connected to a three-speed automatic. Drive is to the rear wheels via a limited slip differential. The engine has had an oil change in 2023 in preparation for sale, but the listing states that the tires show dry lot cracks.
Total mileage is unknown, but the odometer currently shows 99,000 miles, about 1,000 of which were added by the current owner who acquired the van in 2012.
While it may not be in the best condition or offer the most thrilling driving experience, the "School of Rock" van may be a bargain for a movie car. As of this writing, the high price is well below $10,000 with two days left in the auction. By comparison, the 1949 Buick Roadmaster Convertible in "Rain Man" sold for $335,000 at the 2022 auction, and the 1976 AMC Pacer in "Wayne's World" sold for $71,500 at another auction that same year The same year, a 1976 AMC pacer in Wayne's World sold for $71,500.
