New Challenge 296 to participate in the Ferrari One-Make Racing series
The Ferrari 296challenge was presented on Thursday as the latest entry in the Ferrari Challenge one-make racing series.
Will be ready to compete from the 2024 season of the corresponding series in Europe and North America. This is an alternative to the 2017 488 Challenge, which has been part of the series ever since.
The 296 Challenge is closely related to the 296GTB road car and has benefited from the lessons learned in the development of the 296GT3 race car released for the 2023 motorsport season.
Like the 296GT3, the 296 Challenge relies solely on a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine, bypassing the plug-in hybrid system of the road car. The engine power was brought to 654 horsepower compared to 690 horsepower of a road car, which, according to Ferrari, is the highest power per 1 liter of working volume of a racing car that took part in the Ferrari Challenge.
According to the automaker, the level of downforce is also unprecedented in the history of the Ferrari Challenge. With a maximum angle of attack of the rear spoiler, the 296 challenge creates downforce of over 1,900 pounds at 155 mph.
Improvements in handling compared to the 488Challenge and the updated 488Challenge Evo were achieved by adding a new ABS system specially tuned for the car, the latest carbon-ceramic Brembo CCM-R brake discs and specially designed Pirelli tires.
The 296 Challenge officially debuts during the celebration of Ferrari Finali Mondiali at the end of the year in the field of motorsport. 24-30 at the Mugello Circuit in Italy.
