Toyota could prepare a crown SUV for us
Toyota on Tuesday released a teaser photo of what it describes as a mid-size all-wheel drive hybrid SUV that is planned to be sold in the United States.
Although the automaker says nothing more about the vehicle, the photo suggests that the car in question is a production version. about the Crown Estate concept shown in 2022. This is a great place to start.
Toyota launched last year in the US the Crown 2023 sedan with high cross-country performance as an alternative to the Avalon, but this is just one of four different body styles that the automaker plans for the nameplate.
The second is the rakish Crown sports crossover, which was introduced in Japan earlier this month. Other planned body options include lower-end sedans and more traditional SUVs. Toyota has not announced plans to launch any of the additional body options in the United States, but the teaser photo shows a traditional SUV, which is scheduled to debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show next month.
The taillight design shown in the teaser photo matches the design used in the Crown Estate concept. The visible "C" icon is stylized as the letter C, which forms the name crown on the reverse side of the 2023 crown.
The power unit may be transferred jointly with Crown in 2023. The high-traffic sedan is currently offered in a hybrid version with two options - an all-wheel drive system, with which an electric motor drives the rear axle. The standard powertrain uses a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine as an internal combustion engine, while the more powerful unit is replaced by a 2.4-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine. The power of the power unit is 236 and 340 horsepower, respectively.
At some point, a plug-in hybrid option is also possible, and even an electric option later. The Crown sports crossover is available in Japan with a plug-in hybrid powerplant that uses a 2.5-liter inline 4-liter engine, but Toyota has not released performance figures.
