2024 Ford F-150 to Debut at 2023 Detroit Auto Show

Ford is working on a mid-cycle update to the current F-150, which will be unveiled in September at the 2023 Detroit Auto Show.

According to Automotive News (subscription required), this information was revealed last week by Ford CEO Jim Farley at the company's Q2 earnings press conference.

The updated F-150 will likely be introduced as a 2024 model. The current F-150 will be introduced in 2021, and this update will probably be the only notable improvement until the next generation model arrives in 2027.

A prototype of the updated F-150 has been spotted. Camouflage gear on the test vehicle points to a new design for the lights at both ends, a revised grille, and possibly a multi-function tailgate. A revised dash with a portrait-oriented infotainment screen is also expected to make an appearance.

Updated versions of the F-150 Raptor and F-150 Raptor R should also appear, but the timing of the high-performance variant is unclear.

Ford may also focus on the hybrid F-150 this time around. At the conference, Farley said that Ford is "surprised" by the popularity of the hybrid F-150. He said that more than 10% of F-150 buyers have opted for this powertrain, which combines a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 and one electric motor for a total of 430 horsepower.

The F-150 update is believed to be one of six debuts planned by Detroit's three automakers for this year's Detroit auto show. Organizers have announced that twice as many brands will participate as last year.

The show will run from September 13-24 and will include new attractions such as a track dedicated to electric cars and other outdoor events. The bulk of the activities will take place at Detroit's Huntington Place (formerly the TCF Center, and before that, Cobo), which has hosted the show since 1965.
