2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup's Range Increases to 381 Miles
GMC's Hummer EV Pickup enters the 2024 model year with some changes.
A new Hummer EV SUV body style will also arrive in 2024.
For the pickup, the existing Edition 1 will be discontinued and the 3X will be the only grade available. Three powertrains, one front and two rear (1,000 hp), are standard.
Two types of batteries are now available. The standard option is a new 20-module unit, and the previously standard 24-module is now available; GMC did not provide a range estimate for the 20-module battery, but stated that the range of the 24-module unit would increase to 381 miles from 355 miles the previous year. GMC did not mention how it achieved this increase.
The range estimates are based on standard 22-inch wheels and 35-inch all-terrain tires. If the Extreme Off-Road package is selected, which adds 18-inch wheels and 35-inch mud-terrain tires, the estimated range of GMC's 24-module battery drops to 359 miles, down from 329 miles the previous year.
The Hummer EV pickup does not require EPA testing due to its monstrous weight, but GMC's estimate is calculated using the same test cycle as the EPA, according to the automaker.
The 24-module battery is also an option to get if you want maximum acceleration; GMC gives a 0-60 mph time of 3 seconds when using Watts to Freedom Launch Control. if you opt for the 20-module battery, the 0-60 mph time is 3.5 seconds.
Regardless of the battery, the Hummer EV Pickup is well equipped. Standard equipment includes rear-wheel steering with diagonal drive clubwalk functionality, adaptive air suspension, and Super Cruise automatic driving assist, which currently covers more than 400,000 miles of road in the U.S. and Canada.
Towing capacity is up to 8,500 pounds, but drops to 7,500 pounds with the Extreme Off-Road Package. In addition to mud-terrain tires, the Extreme Off-Road package adds four underbody camera views for a total of 18 camera views, heavy-duty ball spline half shafts, five skid plates, and shields for the battery and motor, underbody protection, including rocker protection, will be added.
Pricing for the 2024 Hummer EV Pickup starts at $106,945 and the 2024 Hummer EV SUV starts at $100,395. Both include destination.
Despite the high prices, these vehicles have attracted orders in the thousands; GMC says it has over 90,000 reservations, split evenly between pickups and SUVs. Due to strong demand, GMC is not taking any more reservations, as the company is building vehicles for customers who have converted their reservations into orders; GMC has not indicated when it will resume taking reservations.
