Verstappen aims for victory at the 2023 F1 Canadian Grand Prix
Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen continued his unbroken season in Sunday's free practice for the 2023 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix.
Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen led the race from pole position and was the lone driver in the 2023 F1 Canadian Grand Prix at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
It was a memorable and historic victory for both Red Bull Racing and the racer. It was Verstappen's 41st win, tying him with Ayrton Senna for fifth on the all-time wins list. It was also Red Bull Racing's 100th win since entering Formula One in 2005.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was a surprise performer. Alonso traded places with Lewis Hamilton several times throughout the race, but was able to hold off Hamilton to take second place. Hamilton was the only Mercedes-Benz AMG Petronas to finish the race, taking third place.
On lap 12, George Russell lost control and went over the track curb, hitting the barrier with the right rear of his car. Russell limped back to the pits, had his car checked and fitted with new tires, and was given permission by his team to continue the race. However, on lap 55, his brakes ran too hot and he retired. [Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Only two of the five drivers, including Perez, Magnussen, and Bottas, stayed on track during the safety car session after Russell hit the wall.
A number of near-misses were reported in the pits, and F1 officials investigated multiple instances during the race. All parties involved, including Hamilton, Alonso, and Lando Norris, were cleared of any wrongdoing and no further action was taken.
Norris attempted to overtake Gasly in the last few corners of the final lap, but his efforts were unsuccessful. Norris attempted to overtake Gasly in the last few corners of the last lap, but his efforts were unsuccessful. Officials gave him a five-second penalty for "unsportsmanlike conduct" behind the safety car. The ruling came after Norris was accused of backing out of traffic to make way for a McLaren double stack in the pits.
After the 2023 F1 Canadian Grand Prix, Verstappen leads the 2023 drivers' championship with 195 points. Perez is in second place with 126 points, but Alonso has surged ahead with 117 points and Hamilton is chasing with 102. In the constructors' championship, Red Bull Racing has a big lead with 321 points. Mercedes-Benz AMG is in second place, well behind with 167 points, and Aston Martin is in third place with 154 points. Ferrari is starting to drop out of the pack with 122 points.17]
