2023 F1 Rankings: Verstappen extends title lead, Mercedes shows resurgence

After the first nine rounds of the 2023 F1 World Championship, Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen leads the title chase with six wins.

Sergio Perez, also of Red Bull, has been less consistent than his teammate this season, but remains second in the standings. Perez showed his potential in the early stages of the season, but has been unlucky in qualifying for the last three races. [Meanwhile, Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso has performed well throughout the season, finishing on the podium five times, including third in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Australia, and Miami, and second in the Monaco Grand Prix. He is currently third in the standings, only nine points behind Perez in second place.

After a strong start to the season, Ferrari has been slowed by reliability issues and crashes involving Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. On the other hand, Mercedes-Benz AMG had a shaky start, but in the last few races they have significantly improved their performance, especially in the Spanish GP, where both drivers finished on the podium. At the Canadian GP, Hamilton finished on the podium, but Russell retired.

Among rookies, McLaren's Oscar Piazzolli scored points for the first time. Piastri finished 8th in the third round in Australia, scoring 4 points.
