Ford Mustang GT4 debuts at Spa on June 28.

The seventh-generation Ford Mustang will race in a variety of categories around the world, with the newest Mustang race car set to make its debut on June 28 at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium.

The car Ford is unveiling is the Mustang GT4, designed for privateer racing in the popular GT4 class; GT4 cars can now compete in multiple American and European series, so teams that purchase a Mustang GT4 will have many options. Multimatic Motorsports, developer of the successful Ford GT racer, will build the car for customers worldwide. The company also helps develop Ford Performance.

Other details will not be revealed until the car is made public, but based on GT4 rules, the Mustang is expected to be closer to a road-going version than the Mustang GT3 unveiled earlier this month. The car is set to compete in the North American IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the global FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). Entry in the latter means that the Mustang GT3 will compete in the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The Mustang-derived racing car already competes in the Australian Supercar Series, NASCAR Cup Series, and Xfinity Series, but the NASCAR version will still wear the bodywork of the current 6th generation model for the time being.

Ford is also known to be working on a Mustang Dark Horse R race car that could serve as the basis for a new one-make series. It would be based on the track-focused Mustang Dark Horse road car and would sit above the GT in the 2024 Mustang lineup, replacing models such as the Brit and Mach 1. 500-hp 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 version, with carbon fiber wheels as a stand-alone option.

The 2024 Ford Mustang will be available later this summer. The GT4 racing car will hit the track next year.
