2024 Toyota GR Supra 45th Anniversary Model Celebrates Sports Car Tradition
Toyota on Wednesday announced updates to its Gazoo Racing (GR) performance line, including a Supra 45th Anniversary model that will arrive in U.S. showrooms this year as a 2024 model.
The 45th Anniversary model commemorates the 1979 U.S. launch of the original Mark I Supra (badged Celica Supra), but Toyota is also paying tribute to the 1990s with the Mark IV, which was immortalized in pop culture through the "Wild Speed" series It also calls it an ode to the Supra model, which was immortalized in pop culture through the "Wild Speed" series.
The special edition's paint color, Mikan Blast ("mikan" means "orange" in Japanese), helps to emphasize the connection to the Supra in Wild Speed. The only other color is Absolute Zero (white).
The car also features a rear spoiler that sits about 3 inches above the decklid and whose angle can be adjusted manually. Other changes include matte black 19-inch wheels, GR-logo brake calipers, and black side panel graphics with the Supra logo.
The 45 Anniversary Edition is available only with the same 3.0-liter turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine that produces the same 382 hp and 367 lb-ft of torque as the other Supra models. This power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. Toyota has brought back a manual for the 2023 model year, but only for the six-cylinder engine, while the base 2.0-liter turbo four remains automatic-only.
Production of the 2024 Toyota GR Supra 45th Anniversary will be limited to 900 units and will be available in two paint colors, Tangerine Blast and Absolute Zero. Pricing for the special edition and the rest of the 2024 Supra lineup will be announced at a later date.
