Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison Announced
The 2023 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 has not yet gone into production, and all Bison variants have been confirmed.
On Saturday, at the 2023 Colorado ZR2 media drive, Chevrolet rolled a camouflaged prototype of the upcoming Colorado ZR2 Bison into the Hall Racing USA parking lot.
A Chevrolet spokesperson was tight-lipped about the prototype. The body was under tight camouflage, but the upgrades from American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) were clearly visible.
The ZR2 Bison wore 17-inch AEV wheels wrapped in 35-inch Goodyear Duratrac all-terrain tires. Notably, these tires were not only larger but different than the 33-inch tires on the 2023 Colorado ZR2; the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 wore Goodyear Territory Mud Terrain tires.
The Bison features a new fuel tank skid plate and enhanced versions of other skid plates. The hydraulic bump stops are labeled Chevrolet Performance. In the prototype, the spare tire was mounted on a bracket on the cargo bed against the rear of the cab.
The prototype's driveshaft was aluminum like the standard ZR2, rather than steel like the ZR2 upgrade available from Chevrolet Performance Parts.
Inside, the Bison prototype had a model-specific cloth seat pattern. The dashboard, trim, yellow stitching, and controls all matched those found on the standard ZR2 about to go into production.
The previous generation Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison was so popular that AEV had to increase production to meet demand. It is unclear when the new Colorado ZR2 Bison will be available, but with the addition of the 2024 Silverado 2500HD ZR2 Bison, which was unveiled last week, the ZR2 Bison lineup is growing.
