VW ID.Buzz under the Porsche brand - nostalgia for Lendienst van.

Porsche once used Volkswagen vans to support its race teams, and now the automaker is continuing that tradition by rebranding its VW ID.Buzz electric vans.

According to Porsche's Dutch media site (via Google Translate), the ID.Buzz, clad in the classic Porsche Lendienst (German for "racing service") livery, will be available this month as part of Porsche's 75th anniversary celebration at eight Dutch dealerships in the Netherlands this month as part of Porsche's 75th anniversary celebrations, along with a matching Taycan Sport Turismo.

The original Porsche Lendienst van was used to transport cars, parts, and crew to the race track from the 1950s through the 1970s, starting with the Mille Miglia in 1954. In those days, when motorsports were simpler, cars could be brought to the track on open trailers, and this relatively small van served as a mobile tool shed.

In other words, this motorized rendition van is not a tool, but a tribute. The large amount of equipment that professional teams bring to races these days requires something larger than the ID.Buzz, and it is unlikely that Porsche would transport one of its 963 Hybrid racing cars on an open trailer.

However, the Rendezvous van has a cult following, which led Porsche to design a modern version of the concept. Also, the electric car, the Porsche Vision Lendienst, was completed in 2018, but was not released to the public until 2020, when Porsche unveiled the secret concept, which had previously been kept private.

Porsche revealed another version of the concept in 2021, this time with a reconfigurable interior intended to be paired with automated driving technology. The interior was packed with six seats instead of tools and spare parts, including a solo seat for the driver.
