Spy shot of the 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe
Genesis is preparing to join the array of automakers offering SUVs with coupe-like styling.
A prototype of a coupe-like version of the Genesis GV80 mid-size SUV has been spotted. The roof slopes toward the rear, meaning that the SUV, which may be called the GV80 Coupe, will not offer a third row, which is also the case for existing options in the segment like the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class Coupe.
The rear section is heavily camouflaged, but the design may resemble the GV70, a small crossover with a roofline much more curved than a typical SUV or crossover. There may also be some influence from Genesis' recent coupe concepts, such as the Genesis X Speedium Concept unveiled last April.
The powertrain will likely be shared with the regular GV80; the SUV currently offers a choice between a 2.5-liter turbo four with 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque and a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 with 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. SUVs like the coupe may only be offered with the V-6.
The SUV coupe should debut next year along with an expected updated version of the regular GV80. Both SUVs should appear as 2025 models. The regular GV80 will make its first appearance in the 2021 model year.
There are also rumors that Genesis will introduce an electric flagship SUV. This vehicle is rumored to arrive later this year, possibly under the name Electrified GV90.
Genesis dealers were recently told to expect a production version of the Genesis X Convertible Concept, which was unveiled last November.
