Spy shot of the 2025 Audi S3 Sportback
Audi is developing an updated version of the S3 Sportback hot hatch sold outside the United States.
This prototype sighting comes just days after the prototype of the updated S3 sedan was spotted.
These cars are expected to be unveiled along with an updated version of the regular A3 later this year or early next year. In the U.S., they should appear as 2025 models. An updated version of the performance flagship RS 3 should also appear.
The prototype reveals new designs inside the lights at both ends, a new grille, and new front and rear fascias. The upgraded brake package indicates that this prototype is for the S3. There are also quad exhaust tips at the rear, a traditional design of Audi's S cars.
Also expected are some cabin tweaks, including the possibility of a larger screen for the infotainment system. Current screens are up to 12.3 inches.
It is unknown if any changes are planned in the powertrain department; the S3 is currently powered by a 2.0-liter turbo four with 306 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that accelerates the S3 from a standstill to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.
Buyers seeking higher performance can opt for the RS 3 with a 2.5-liter turbo 5 with 401 hp and 369 lb-ft. Both the S3 and RS 3 come standard with all-wheel drive.
The latest A3 series, now in its fourth generation, is based on an updated version of Volkswagen Group's front-wheel drive MQB modular platform. Basically, it is twinned under the skin with the latest Volkswagen Golf, which is scheduled to be updated at about the same time as the Audi. We also have spy shots of the updated Golf.
