GMC sells the rights to the first Hummer EV SUV in 2024 and begins pre-production.
GMC auctioned off the rights to the first customer example of the 2024 Hummer EV SUV over the weekend to raise funds for charity.
The auction took place during Barrett-Jackson's annual sale in Scottsdale, Arizona, where the first rights to the 2024 Ford Mustang were also sold.
The final bid for the electric SUV was $500,000. All proceeds will be donated to the nonprofit organization "Tread Lightly!" which promotes outdoor recreation and environmental protection. The rights to the first 2022 Hummer EV pickup were also auctioned in early 2021, with a final winning bid of $2.5 million.
While the first customer Hummer EV SUV has not yet been built, GMC is offering a series of special Hummer EV Edition 1 SUVs with the same standard set of available features as the Edition 1 version of the Hummer EV that was first offered when the pickup was launched in 2021 one of the first.
The Hummer EV Edition 1 SUV will also feature the top-of-the-line powertrain of an electric SUV. In this case, a three-motor all-wheel drive setup with an estimated 830 hp, or 0-60 mph acceleration in about 3.5 seconds when using launch control mode. This is below the pickup's highest performance rating of 1,000 hp (0-60 mph acceleration in 3 seconds).
The Edition 1 will also be available with an exclusive option of the Moonshot Green Matte paint applied to this prototype.
The Hummer EV SUV's wheelbase is 8.9 inches shorter than the pickup's (126.7 inches total), and it has a tighter turning circle of 35.4 feet, thanks in part to a larger departure and breakover angle and rear wheel steering. The pickup's diagonal driving feature will also be available on the SUV.
The largest battery available at launch will provide an estimated range of 300 miles. The smaller battery, which will be available later in the life cycle, has an estimated range of 250 miles.
General Motors' Factory Zero plant near Detroit has been producing pickup trucks since late 2021, and GMC also plans to produce the 2024 Sierra EV Denali. The first customer examples of the Hummer EV SUV are expected to go into production in early 2023, with deliveries beginning soon.
Prices for the Hummer EV Edition 1 SUV start at $105,595, with the Edition 1 to be followed in spring 2023 by the $99,995 EV3X grade with the same three-motor powertrain for delivery. The EV2X and EV2 grades with dual-motor powertrains will also eventually be available. Prices start at $89,995 and $79,995, respectively. GMC has confirmed that reservations are now closed.
