Exotic Car Sales Surge in 2022
Despite many headwinds, exotic brand car sales hit record highs in 2022.
Despite the war in Ukraine, the energy crisis, the inflation crisis, and supply disruptions, many brands in the ultra-luxury segment achieved record results.
Among the brands reporting full-year 2022 sales, Lamborghini was a huge success, selling 9,233 units, up 10% from the previous year.
These numbers are impressive considering that production of the Aventador ended in September 2022 and that the Huracan is at the end of its life cycle, a time when sales of sporty models typically slow down. The bulk of Lamborghini's sales, 5,367 units, came from the Urus SUV.
Rolls-Royce also did admirably, selling 6,021 units in 2022, up 8% from the previous year. According to Rolls-Royce, there was also record demand for Rolls-Royce's Bespoke Personalization division.
Rolls-Royce did not provide a breakdown of sales, but confirmed that the Cullinan SUV was the top seller.
Bentley's 2022 sales also set a new record with 15,174 units, a 4% increase over the previous year. This is the first time that Bentley's sales have exceeded the 15,000 unit mark; the Bentayga SUV was once again the most popular model, accounting for about 42% of the total.
Even Bugatti, which sells cars with seven- and sometimes eight-figure prices, had record success in 2022. Bugatti sold 80 cars, its highest number in 12 months. Bugatti plans to expand its showrooms, and sales are expected to grow in 2023.
Aston Martin, Ferrari, and McLaren have yet to announce their 2022 sales figures. McLaren is not required to report figures because it is a private company, but its sales volume has likely declined due to the delayed launch of its new Altura supercar.
Ferrari likely surpassed its 2021 record of 11,155 units, and Aston Martin also likely increased its sales, although it did not set a new record.
