2024 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 4-door coupe spy shots
Mercedes-Benz AMG engineers were photographed testing a prototype of an updated version of the GT 4-door coupe.
The big performance hatch was introduced for the 2019 model year, with subtle updates for 2022. The latest update will make more significant changes and will likely be introduced in 2024 to coincide with the arrival of the redesigned GT sports car (shown below), also due in 2024.
The new grille, with its egg-crate pattern, resembles the design seen on the redesigned GT prototype. The modified front mask design is also hidden under heavy camouflage gear.
The prototype is a plug-in hybrid GT 63 S E Performance four-door coupe, as evidenced by the charging port in the rear fascia. This grade combines a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine with an electric motor and delivers 843 hp.
It is not clear if any powertrain tweaks are planned, but it is possible that various options will change to match the powertrain of the new GT sports car.
There are no interior shots, but it is expected that the dashboard will change with the update. Its design should resemble the design planned for the new GT sports car.
Debut will likely be late this year or early next year.
As for the long-term future of the GT 4-door coupe, there is speculation that the entire lineup, along with the CLS-Class, will be discontinued after one generation. AMG is planning to go full EV by 2030, as is the rest of Mercedes. AMG is developing its own dedicated EV platform. It is called AMG.EA and was previewed in last year's Vision AMG concept car.
