2023 BMW X1 M35i Spy Shots and Video
BMW's X1 compact crossover has been redesigned for 2023. The latest spy shots and video show a prototype of the new performance flagship.
The 2023 X1 currently has a maximum output of 241 hp with internal combustion and 308 hp with the electric iX1.
This new performance flagship is expected to be badged the X1 M35i and should have even more power.
Other BMW compact cars like the 1 Series and 2 Series Gran Coupe already have M35i variants.
All of these other M35i models are powered by the 301 hp 2.0-liter turbo four engine, and the X1 M35i should have this same engine. However, for the X1 M35i to gain an edge over rival Mercedes-Benz AMG's GLA 35 and GLB 35 (both with 302 hp), something closer to 340 hp is expected.
Forming the rest of the X1 M35i's drivetrain should be an 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive system.
Note that our tester was fitted with quad exhaust tips, but this is not an M-only car; the M35i belongs to BMW's M Performance range, which is one step below the true M range. With its sport-tuned suspension, the M35i successfully combines comfort and performance.
The platform underpinning the new X1 is BMW Group's latest front-wheel drive architecture for compact cars, known as FAAR. This platform is shared with the latest 1 Series, 2 Series Gran Coupe and 2 Series Active Tourer.
Production of the X1 will take place at BMW's plant in Leipzig, Germany. The plant will also produce a redesigned Mini Countryman related to the X1.
