Flyin' Miata with LS V8 engine swapped into Mazda MX-5 Miata
Flyin' Miata has been offering a turnkey service to swap a V8 engine into a Mazda MX-5 Miata for years, but the Colorado-based performance store has ended that service.
The company cited stricter emission regulations and a crackdown on businesses that tinker with vehicles' emission systems as reasons for ending the service.
Flyin' Miata's V-8 swap, which can be performed on 2008 to 2018 model year Miatas, started at approximately $50,000, not including the cost of the donor vehicle. According to the company, the swap has been ordered by people who want to participate in autocross, hill climbs, and track days, as well as by people who want to make their Miata faster. Quite fast.
The swap was designed for GM's LS3 and LS4 V-8s, some of which make over 500 hp in stock form.
Flyin' Miata no longer offers the service, but the company is happy to offer advice to those who want to do the conversion themselves, as well as parts to complement the V-8 swap, including upgraded brakes, suspension, and wheels.
The company is also willing to steer interested buyers to competitors who still offer the service. One such company is V8R Performance of Daytona Beach, Florida.
