Nissan Z Nismo GT4 Race Car to be unveiled on September 27.

Nissan's new generation Z sports car for 2023 will be built in a GT4-spec racing version, just like its predecessor.

Nissan posted teaser shots of the new racing car on Monday, confirming that it will debut on Wednesday in Japan and late Tuesday for U.S. readers. The reveal will be streamed live on YouTube beginning at 7 p.m. EST.

It is not clear what upgrades the Z GT4 will receive from the road car, but the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 should remain. In the race car, this engine is expected to be paired with a sequential transmission. Competition suspension, brakes, and aerodynamics should also be used. The teaser shows a large rear wing, vented hood, and extended front splitter.

Some of the upgrades may eventually make their way into the Nismo-tuned version of the road car.

We expect the GT4 to be offered as a customer race car. Nissan has not indicated whether it will build the car itself or partner with another company, as it has done with customer race cars in the past.

The GT4 will not be the first race version of the latest Z, as the Z GT500 has been competing in the Japanese SUPER GT touring car series since the start of 2022. A GT3-specification car may also be planned to replace the aging GT-R Nismo GT3.
