Lamborghini Updates SUV with More Powerful Urus S
The second of two new Lamborghini Urus variants slated for 2022 was unveiled Thursday as the Urus S. The two vehicles will be the last Urus SUVs to be launched without electrification as part of Lamborghini's plan to launch only electrified vehicles starting with the Aventador's successor next year.
The Urus S will replace the current Urus, essentially serving as a mid-term update in the same way that the Uracan Evo replaced the original Uracan. It will be powered by the same twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 as the Urus, but output will be limited to 657 hp, the same as the Urus Performante.
The new power rating is only 16 hp higher than the current one, but performance is improved. Lamborghini announced a 0-62 mph time of 3.5 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than before. The top speed remains unchanged at 189 mph, and the stopping distance from 62 mph remains 110 ft.
To emphasize the improved performance, the Urus S has a re-tuned exhaust system that produces a more distinct sound when the engine starts, along with a sharper sound in each of the six drive modes.
What makes the Urus S stand out from the Urus are the new front and rear end, matte black steel skid plates up front, a revised grille, a carbon fiber hood with newly designed vents, newly designed twin-pipe exhaust tips These are just a few subtle design adjustments, such as A carbon fiber roof can also be added, and wheel sizes up to 23 inches in diameter can be selected.
For the interior, Lamborghini has developed new color combinations and added new connectivity features. One of these is a remote parking feature that can be controlled via the Lamborghini Unica app.
Lamborghini also says there are more color, trim, and wheel pattern options to choose from than ever before.
Sales and pricing for the U.S. market will be announced at a later date. In Europe, the Urus S will go on sale later this year for 195,538 euros (about $190,400) without taxes.
