Porsche Vision GT Spyder Coming to Gran Turismo 7 on September 29
Porsche has created yet another virtual concept car for its Gran Turismo video game series. The car, dubbed the Vision GT Spyder, will be revealed to Gran Turismo 7 players on September 29.
First shown on Twitter, the Vision GT Spyder is an open-roof version of the Porsche Vision GT, a coupe that Porsche has announced for late 2021. While other automakers have been showing Vision Gran Turismo concepts for years, Porsche was largely absent from the Gran Turismo world until 2017 due to licensing agreements, so this is the first time the car has been shown.
The Vision GT Concept is an electric sports car that explores possible future design themes. Porsche actually built a full-scale mockup of the Vision GT coupe, but it is unclear if they did the same with the Spyder.
The Vision GT Spyder and Coupe were designed purely for the Gran Turismo game, but their styling shares little in common with Porsche's September 2021 Porsche Mission R Concept, a drivable circuit car. It is believed to be a preview of the 718 Cayman electric car that Porsche is reportedly preparing for a mid-decade launch.
However, Porsche's next production EV is not a sleek sports car. It is the next-generation Macan, due to arrive next year as a 2024 model. The gasoline Macan is also expected to survive, but Porsche is reportedly hoping that EV sales will rival the current-generation gasoline Macan. The Macan is currently Porsche's most popular model.
In July, Porsche also confirmed plans for an electric SUV to sit above the Cayenne. Porsche is also believed to be planning a successor to the Panamera and is investing in new battery technology.
