Watch Max Verstappen Drive the 2023 Honda Civic Type R in New Ad
Verstappen arrives at the track and, after a few laps in the Type R, realizes he is late and drives the hot hatch straight to the meeting venue.
Honda withdrew from F1 after the 2021 season, but Red Bull still uses Honda power units. The team is now responsible for producing its own power units under license from Honda and is doing the same for its sibling team, Alfa Tauli. Negotiations with Porsche recently failed to reach an agreement, leaving Red Bull without an automaker partner for the foreseeable future.
The new Civic Type R, which will be introduced in the U.S. as a 2023 model, will feature a more powerful version of the current model's 2.0-liter turbo four. This engine produces 315 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque compared to the previous Type R's 306 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.
Power is sent to the front wheels via an improved six-speed manual transmission; the 2023 Civic Type R will also feature an updated suspension and more restrained styling based on the 11th-generation Civic's body shell.
Honda has not revealed pricing for the 2023 Civic Type R, which will go on sale this fall, but it will be built at the Yorii plant in Japan.
