BMW 3.0 CSL Homage Spy Shot: M4 CSL-based Special Edition Coming Soon
The BMW M celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, and BMW is celebrating in grand style. New M3 Touring and M4 CSL models have already been announced, as well as the M3 CS, the redesigned M2, and a standalone M SUV.
There will also be an M4 CSL-based 3.0 CSL tribute model to celebrate BMW M's 50th anniversary in grand style this year, with BMW M boss Frank van Meer posting photos of the prototype on social media on Monday, and now fresh spy shots have been obtained.
A debut is expected soon.
BMW has been honoring the 3.0 CSL for the past decade with its 3.0 CSL Homage concept cars, and it appears that some of the styling elements of these concept cars have been incorporated into the 3.0 CSL Homage production model.
The most significant departure from the styling of the donor M4 CSL is the new front end, which is more rounded and features unique designs for the headlights, hood, grille, and fascia. The rear is also unique, right down to the roof spoiler. Pumped fenders suggest a wider track.
The new body is made of carbon fiber and is expected to be significantly lighter than the M4 CSL's 3,640 pounds.
Power will almost certainly come from the M4's twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6, which is said to boost the M4 CSL's 543 hp to 600 hp. Rumors suggest a 0-60 mph time of about 3.5 seconds and a top speed approaching 200 mph. Interestingly, the car is believed to be equipped with a 6-speed manual instead of the M4 CSL's 8-speed automatic.
If the rumors are accurate, be prepared to pay at least 750,000 euros (about $789,150). And apparently only 50 units are planned, probably already sold out.
