McMurtry Sparing Road Car Program.
McMurtry Speirling is a small, lightweight electric car that can outperform an F1 racing car on the right track. Incredible? Take a look at its record-breaking performance at the recent Goodwood Hill Climb.
The key to this car's performance is its impressive power-to-weight ratio (1 horsepower for 2.2 pounds of weight) combined with high downforce.
The Spearing was originally developed as an engineering exercise and technology demonstration, but McMurtry is now keen to develop a road-going version, the company's managing director, Thomas Yates, disclosed in a Monday revealed to Autocar in an interview.
"We want to offer something that you can drive around central London and take to the track," he said.
Development of the road car is still in its early stages, and McMurtry is considering what tweaks are needed to make the car suitable for public road use. Nevertheless, the car is expected to maintain the performance of a track car, with a 0-60 mph time of 1.5 seconds and a top speed approaching 200 mph.
Production will be very small, Yates said, and the price per car will be in the seven figures.
McMurtry is also planning a follow-up to the Spearing, Yates revealed in an interview with Autocar. This model will be even smaller than the Spearing, in keeping with the company's philosophy of not wasting an inch of space.
