The Ford Mustang's "dark horse" name has been patented, but what is it?
What is the Ford Mustang Dark Horse?
On Thursday, CarBuzz discovered a Mustang Dark Horse trademark application filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office.
Trademark application 018721280 is for the use of "Mustang Dark Horse" on four-wheeled land vehicles, other than those mentioned above, including electric vehicles, sport utility passenger cars, motorcycles, and tires.
This application could be for a model that will appear on the seventh generation Mustang known as the S650, but probably not.
A more likely scenario is that Dark Horse is the name applied to Ford's new black accent package, which includes black painted wheels, black pony badges, and a seemingly black painted wing.
On June 1, Ford asked fans on social media to submit name suggestions for the new package.
A week later, the automaker shut down the submission portal. If this new black-accented package is the Dark Horse Mustang, the blue oval appears to have moved quickly to apply for a trademark, at least in Europe.
What do you think the Mustang Dark Horse is?
