Radford improves performance ahead of the launch of the Lotus Type 62-2 bus.

British coachbuilder Radford is back, and its first modern project is a retro sports car inspired by the Lotus Type 62.

Called the Lotus Type 62-2 Coachbuilt by Radford, the limited edition sports car is based on the former Lotus Evora platform and was first unveiled last August. Last December, Radford unveiled a range-topping version, dubbed the John Player Special.

Radford plans to begin deliveries of the car later this year, but prior to the start of production, the company announced several significant upgrades. These include a lightweight subframe and suspension uprights by Rock Engineering, which have reduced the car's weight. In addition, fine-tuning by JUBU Performance has placed the engine lower and more centered in the body, further optimizing the center of gravity. A new dry-sump lubrication system and custom exhaust were also installed, contributing to the increased power.

No new performance figures have been announced. As a rough guide, the base model Classic has been announced at 430 hp, the mid-range Gold Leaf at 500 hp, and the range-topping John Player Special at 600 hp. Both models will be powered by the same 3.5-liter V-6 supercharger shared with the Evora.

More details will be announced at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK later this month. Radford will be there, and co-owner Jenson Button will drive the Goodwood hill climb.

The Goodwood Festival will take place from June 23-26. For more information on this event, visit the dedicated hub.
