Hyundai Kona 2024 spy shots: second generation subcompact spotted
The Hyundai Kona is a solid choice for buyers looking for a zippy urban cruiser, and with the new N line and N version joining the lineup in 2022, there is serious performance to boot. There is also an electric version for buyers who want battery power.
The Kona subcompact model will be introduced for the 2018 model year, with a mild update for 2022. New spy shots suggest that Hyundai is currently working on a redesigned model.
Judging from the prototypes in the spy shots, the Kona redesign is more likely to be a heavy update than a true redesign, as the door outlines are unchanged from the current Kona. Like most major automakers, Hyundai is preparing a lineup of mainly electric vehicles for the next 10 years, so it makes sense to refrain from developing a new Kona from scratch.
It is not clear what Hyundai plans for powertrains, but the usual gas, hybrid, and electric options should remain. The most powerful option in the current Kona is the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 in the Kona N, which produces 276 hp and 289 lb-ft of torque.
Look for the redesigned Kona to be introduced in late 2023 as a 2024 model. Note that the Kona is no longer the smallest Hyundai crossover. Below the Kona is the Venue, which Hyundai launched in 2020. Otherwise, the Bayon model is the smallest crossover on the market.
