Audi Q5 2025 spy shots: updated SUV spotted
Audi was caught testing a prototype of the new Q5.
The new third-generation Q5, scheduled to go on sale in 2024 as a 2025 model, will be Audi's last car with an internal combustion engine.
The new Q5 was spotted test driving with the new A4, which will be unveiled a year earlier. Both cars are expected to ride on an updated version of Volkswagen Group's MLB Evo platform found in the current Q5 and A4, meaning longitudinal engine placement and standard front-wheel drive.
The new Q5 is likely to look much more dramatic than the somewhat more conservatively styled current model. However, the general size appears to be about the same. The resulting design should resemble the Q5 E-Tron, which was just announced in China. [Instead, there will be another electric SUV, dubbed the Q6 E-Tron. This too is being tested and will be unveiled later this year.
There should also be a redesigned Q5 Sportback. A prototype of a coupe-like variant should appear within about a year.
The powertrains of the new Q5 and Q5 Sportback are expected to be all electric, with mild hybrid or plug-in hybrid technology paired with an inline-4 or V6 engine. It is not clear if diesel engines will be offered, but they may be offered in markets where diesel fuel is popular.
Production of the Q5 for North America currently takes place at the Audi plant in Mexico. This will be the case for the new generation as well.
