Italdesign is helping Deus develop an electric hypercar.

Italdesign is helping develop an electric hypercar for Deus, an Austrian startup aiming to compete in the high-end electric vehicle segment.

Details are scarce, but Italdesign is said to be assisting Deus with prototyping and some final production planning. [Giorgio Gamberini, head of business development at Italdesign, said in a statement, "Thanks to our special experience in development and pre-production, we are able to offer strategic support and empowerment to newcomers in the automotive and mobility industry, helping them consolidate their ideas and get their vision on the road We can help them solidify their ideas and get their vision out on the road."

Although Italdesign is now part of the Volkswagen Group, it operates like an independent design firm, much as it did under the leadership of its founder, Giorgetto Giugiaro. For example, Italdesign recently worked with Nissan on the GT-R's 50th anniversary project. Italdesign is also working on the new DMC-12 with Hyundai DeLorean.

Recently, Italdesign also partnered with Williams Advanced Engineering to develop a modular EV platform, called EVX, which will produce up to 1,341 hp and could be the basis for a Deus hypercar. We will have to wait and see.
