Ford GT, the last 250 units.
Production of the Ford GT is ending; the 2022 model will be the last, with 1,100 of the 1,350 cars recently taken off the assembly line, Ford spokeswoman Ziyan Cadiz said in an interview Thursday at the Chicago Auto Show. Cadiz also said that Mulitimatic, the Canadian specialty company that builds the car, plans to end production of the GT in December.
Earlier this week, Ford unveiled the red GT Allan Mann Heritage Edition, the seventh Heritage Edition commemorating Allan Mann Racing, who helped develop the GT's lightweight body. This is the second Heritage Edition for the 2022 model year and is numbered 16 from the original race car. Cadiz said there are still production slots available for both the Allan Mann Heritage Edition and the black and white GT '64 Prototype Heritage Edition, which the company revealed at Monterey Car Week last August. The cars pay homage to the five prototype cars Ford built in 1964.
Cadiz also pointed us to information on the production numbers for each of the first five second-generation GT Heritage Edition models. Only 27 units of the 2017 Ford GT '66 Heritage Edition, which honors the No. 2 Ford GT40 Mk II that Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon won in the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, were built.
The No. 1 1967 Ford GT40 Mk IV, which won Le Mans in 1967, inspired the 2018 Ford GT '67 Heritage Edition. Ford and Multimatic built 39 units of this model.
Ford and Multimatic built 50 of the 2019 and 2020 Gulf Rivalry Heritage Editions, with the 2019 model emulating the 1968 Le Mans-winning No. 9 car and the 2020 model emulating the 1969 Le Mans-winning No. 6 car. Fifty 2021 Ford GT '66 Daytona Heritage Editions were also built to honor Ken Miles' No. 98 Ford GT40 Mk II, which won the 1966 Daytona 24-hour race.
Ford also revealed that 343 of the earlier 2006 Ford GT Gulf Rivalry Heritage Editions were built; like the 2019 and 2020 Heritage Editions, these cars were built to honor the GT40's 1968 and 1969 commemorating its back-to-back victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and are the most expensive of the original GTs at auction today.
