Subaru Solterra 2023 interior revealed, the electric crossover will arrive in showrooms in 2022.
Subaru will launch the battery-powered Solterra compact crossover in mid-2022. On Wednesday, Subaru released a promotional video on YouTube, revealing part of the exterior and the interior.
Called Solterra, a combination of Latin words meaning "sun" and "earth," the new crossover is an electric vehicle that Subaru announced it is developing with Toyota in 2019. Twinned with Toyota's Solterra, the model was previewed last month at the 2021 Shanghai Motor Show as the BZ4X Concept.
The Soltera is comparable in size to the Subaru Forester and will seat five people. Similarly, Toyota's BZ4X will be comparable in size to the RAV4.
Underpinning these two crossovers is a modular EV platform. Subaru's platform is called the e-Subaru Global Platform, or eSGP for short. Toyota calls it e-TNGA.
Specs have not been revealed, but rumors point to the platform supporting battery sizes ranging from 50 to 100 kilowatt-hours. Subaru has confirmed that the Solterra will have "sufficient ground clearance" with all-wheel drive.
The Solterra will be available in mid-2022, about the same time the Toyota BZ4X arrives in showrooms.
Production will take place in factories in China and Japan.
Note that the Solterra is not Subaru's first EV. That honor goes to the Subaru Stella electric car, which was launched in Japan in 2009.
